Operations Efficiencies

Wi-SKY transmits to ground stations aircraft performance information that is too large for cellular or satellite data links. Wi-SKY makes possible expanded analysis of aircraft system trends, which will pinpoint conditions of potential repair at the earliest possible stage. Timely preventive maintenance can prevent more expensive, unscheduled and more extensive repairs at a future date.

Crew paperwork

During some flights, crew members can access the airline virtual private network via the Wi-SKY data link to complete required reports while in flight. This saves hours of labor expense at day’s end.

Vendor audits

Aircraft sensors of fuel levels and real-time recording of meal/snack provisioning transmitted during takeoff and landing can provide a detailed database of aircraft provisioning. When corporate receives invoices from vendors, accountants can more easily validate the accuracy of charges.

Parts update

Each airplane has a unique compilation of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), or parts. When pilots request repairs during an airport turnaround, it is important for mechanics to know which part, model, and version is on each specific aircraft. By transmitting an accurate and updated LRU to the mechanics prior to landing, they can meet the aircraft at the gate with the precise part needed for that specific aircraft. This eliminates the mechanic's preliminary trip to make a parts inspection prior to returning to the shop to get the correct part and return to the aircraft again to install it.

Inflight rebooking

During flights that are delayed, onboard passengers are anxious about missing their connecting flight. Access to the airline's virtual private network will enable crew members to assist passengers in making alternate travel arrangements, if necessary. This will prevent long lines and reduce agent hours at the airport customer service desks.

Timely inspections

When aircraft experience severe flight conditions such as wind sheer, the FAA requires inspection within a specified period of time based on the nature of the aircraft stress. The Wi-SKY super high speed data link will enhance the timely transfer of these important condition reports. Without a timely transfer of an aircraft stress incident, it might not become known within the FAA inspection deadline. Under these circumstances the aircraft must be immediately grounded, regardless of wherever it is in the world. This grounding necessitates not only rebooking a flight full of passengers, but sometimes the rebooking of subsequent flight legs of the same aircraft. These flight rebookings can constitute major expenses for the airline.
